​About the Event:
Since the financial tsunami in 2008 the global economics have been looking at ways to boost growth and stabilise financial markets. Property prices skyrocketed due to a very loose monetary environment and extremely low interest rate, particularly in Hong Kong with its limited land supply. While the Government has tried to curb price rises, nothing seems to be stopping the current upward trend. Now 10 years on, the problem still persists with the gap between those that own and those that do not widening. What worked before may not work now and the wider community and Government need to work collaboratively to rebalance what is an unsustainable situation. With different market dynamics, Hong Kong is a different place, which in turn necessities new measures and direction.

With this backdrop, Justin Chiu, Executive Director Cheung Kong will give his views on the Hong Kong property market, the opportunities and the future.

Chiu Kwok Hung, Justin

Mr. Chiu Kwok Hung Justin, Joined the CK Group in 1997, and has been an Executive Director of the Company since February 2015 and a Member of the Executive Committee of the Company since June 2015. He is the Chairman of ARA Asset Management (Prosperity) Limited as the manager of Prosperity REIT (listed in Hong Kong). Mr. Chiu is also a Non-executive Director of ARA Asset Management (Fortune) Limited as the manager of Fortune REIT (listed in Hong Kong and Singapore).He is also a Director of ARA Fund Management (Asia Dragon) Limited as the manager of the ARA Asia Dragon Fund. He was previously the Chairman of ARA Asset Management Limited (whose shares were withdrawn from listing on SGX, Singapore on 19 April 2017). 

Mr. Chiu has more than 30 years of international experience in real estate in Hong Kong and various countries. He served as a member of the Standing Committee of the 12th Shanghai Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference of the People’s Republic of China. Mr. Chiu is a Council Member and a Fellow of The Hong Kong Institute of Directors, a Fellow of Hong Kong Institute of Real Estate Administrators, a member of the Board of Governors of Hong Kong Baptist University Foundation, an Honorary Associate Member of Business of Trent University, Canada, a Senior Visiting Fellow of the Department of Land Economy at University of Cambridge and an Honorary Professor of School of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Sun Yat-sen University.

He holds Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and Economics, and was conferred with the degree of Doctor of Social Sciences, honoris causa by Hong Kong Baptist University and the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa by Trent University, Canada.
